Tech trounce Rams

1st: Camden 28 Tech-Tahs 54

2nd: Camden 38 Tech-Tahs 0

3rd: Camden 3 Tech-Tahs 6

Round eight on the Illawarra rugby calendar saw the Camden Rams travel south to face the Wollongong Tech Waratahs last Saturday.

As usual the third XV’s began the day where Camden kicked out on the full nullifying any chance of an early attack. Penalties to either side early on saw the score levelled at 3 – 3 yet missed opportunities from both sides kept the scorers at bay.

What was looking like to be a fierce encounter the Waratahs led 6 – 3 at the break, yet a serious neck injury to one of the home players halted proceedings. With the match stalled for some time due to an ambulance being called the game was consequently called full time and an anti – climatic finish to the match.

Once again Camden second grade proved why they are one of the in form teams by disposing of the home side early on in the second grade fixture.

Early tries to flanker James Gatt and full back Andrew Brown had the Tech ‘Tahs on the back foot yet numerous penalties to the home side absolved the team of further onslaught from the Rams.

A 31 – 0 lead at half – time only edged out a further seven points in the second half, a huge defensive effort denied the Waratahs any hope of getting across the stripe.

A somewhat frenetic second half proved to be a real grind for all players on the pitch, yet a successful end to the match all the same for Camden finishing 38 – 0.

The reigning premiers in first grade displayed why the earned the title season. The home side scored first and early in the match taking the lead and never relented.

A 14 – 0 nil lead in the first ten minutes proved too much for Camden. Despite great tries to lock Mark Nightingale and flanker Danny Ballentine catch up football is a game no side wishes to play.

Missed chances and a dominance at the ruck from Tech’s number seven put the nail in the coffin for Camden a full – time end score of 54 – 28.

Camden Co – Coach Al Le Good putting his side’s loss to a slow start.

“Any team hates playing catch up footy, but when you come out and have two tries put on you in the first ten [minutes] and then wake up it’s too late against these good teams, we’ll definitely address our defence this week” Le Good said.

Camden play at Dandaloo this week taking on Avondale, first grade kick off at 3pm.
