Tech Waratahs Scrape Home For First Win

MatchReportIn a hard fought evenly contested match, Tech Waratahs registered their first victory of the year, winning 10 – 7 over Bowral in today’s Round 9 IDRU Builders Club Premiership match at Saunders Oval. With two other matches washed out the game was played on a perfectly dry track before a meagre crowd in perfect conditions.

The first half was a torrid affair with each side willing to play an expansive game but both sides were unable to finish off several try scoring opportunities, until the dying seconds of the half. The forward packs were having a very even tussle with neither pack able to get the upper hand, restricting the attacking opportunities of the respective backlines.

Bowral had the better of the first half but a determined defensive effort from the Tahs prevented any points for the visitors. It wasn’t until the last seconds of the half that the first try came to Tech Tahs as they maintained possession in the Bowral quarter on what was a rare excursion into this end of the field. After several phases of a well-controlled and disciplined pick and drive exercise Captain Coach Tim Olsen broke through to score beside the posts. Wayne Bruton converted the try and Tech Tahs went to the break with a 7 – 0 lead.
