2016 Illawarrior Campaign Underway

illawarriors logoThe 2016 Illawarriors campaign to defend the Caldwell Cup is underway. Head Coach Shaun McCreedy has assembled a Development Squad from which the final squad to defend the title will be selected. The Country Tournament will be conducted on the weekend of May 7th & 8th in Armidale, Northern NSW.

The squad’s first match in the process was played last Saturday against the North Harbour Rays development team at Pittwater Park, Narrabean. A second match against the Rays will be played on October 10th again at Rat Park. Two separate squads will be involved in the matches as McCreedy and his co-coaches cast a critical eye across as many Illawarrior hopefuls as possible.

The first match featured the following in form players from a variety of Illawarra clubs led by Illawarra Player of the Year Adam Choice: Alex Sherwin(Campb), Anthony Allport(Sham), Chris O’Connell(Shoal), Leighton Cowley (Kia), Niko Degei(Kia), Ben Cheetham(Uni), Tony Campbell(Campb), Adam Choice(Campb), Mike Baysett(Camd), Dane Kelly(Camd), Malakai Fekitoa(Campb), James Grehan(Kia), Junior Mapesone(Camd), Tyler Aitkin(Camd), Cameron Madden(Bow), Alex Simms(Uni), Dee Te Huia(Campb), Sam Moore(Kia), Asake Tueva(Kia), Andy Rae(Uni), Liam Antrobus(Vik), Tim Lewis (Bow), Luke Debono(Bow), Daniel Grehan(Kia). The full squad will be training on Thursday 1st & 8th October at 6.00PM in readiness for the second match against the Rays.

McCreedy will also be overseeing the preparation of the 2016 Illawarrior Colts Squad for the championships. A full day training session for the Colts will be conducted on Saturday 3rd October at Campbelltown Harlequins home ground commencing at 9.00AM. A total of 42 Colts players have been invited to attend the session on the long weekend although any Colts players not invited are welcome to attend on the day.
