Shamrocks Confirm Premiership Credentials

MatchReportShamrocks produced an almost perfect second forty minutes of football to down unbeaten defending Premiers Avondale 28 – 17 at ocean Park on Saturday. Avondale held a fourteen point advantage at one stage in the first half and led 17 – 11 at the break but couldn’t match the Rocks in the second term.

In a very disciplined performance after the break the Rocks dominated possession and completely shut down the usual free flowing Wombat attacking machine with dogged defence. The tackling effort from three quarters Joseph Horne and Luke Tonegato cancelled out the usually outstanding attacking flair of Wombat centre pairing Andre Itula and Nua Alone. Conceding just three penalties for the match the Rocks employed a containment policy throughout the match choosing not to take on the bigger Wombat side in a power game. Looking more like a bunch of Blue Heelers rounding up sheep, it was the Rocks non-stop work ethic that prevailed on the day.
