Back at the end of October we announced that Doug Ryan, Dave Gleeson and Gavin Holder were the first three appointments to our coaching panel for 2019. We are delighted to report that the coaching group has now been expanded by the addition of last years successful 3rd grade coach, Ross Cleaver, and Michael Kline.
As is published elsewhere on the Facebook pages training for the 2019 season has already commenced and it is pleasing to see that over 40 players have made an appearance in the first 2 weeks. There appears to be a lot of enthusiasm for the task ahead.
Doug Ryan is a Level 2 accredited coach and has also undertaken the Level 3 Emerging Coach Program through Rugby Australia and World Rugby. Doug has only recently returned from Canada where he did a stint as Director of Rugby and Head Coach of Edmonton Leprechaun Tigers Rugby Club. In addition, he had roles coaching representative squads in Edmonton and Alberta Province. Prior to his Canadian sojourn Doug has had coaching experience with Southern Districts and Randwick as well as schools teams. Welcome aboard Doug.
Michael Kline attended one of the nurseries of NSW rugby, Newington College, where he played in the 1st XV in 2003-2004. After school he has had playing experience with Parramatta, Causeway Bay in Hong Kong and Knox Rugby Club. Michael also holds his Level 2 coaching accreditation and has had coaching experience with a number of clubs including St Patricks Rugby Club, Knox Rugby and Parramatta Colts.to a premiership.
Gavin Holder (Level 2 accredited coach) and Dave Gleeson will be well known to followers of Camden Rugby as both have been long term stalwarts of the Club. They both played in the 1st grade premiership side in 2013 and Gavin was Captain/Coach in his final playing year in 2016. Gavin has since his retirement been involved with coaching with the Illawarra rep sides. Dave played 261 games for the Club and also retired in 2016. He has assisted with coaching the 1st grade side since then.
Last, but certainly not least, is Ross Cleaver who successfully coached our 3rd grade side to a premiership this year. Ross is a Kiwi (but has apparently not claimed to be an All Black trialist) and had a long playing career with the Hamilton Eastern Suburbs Club in Waikato Province where he captained the 2nd grade side to 2 premierships and also coached an under 20 side to a premiership.
Welcome aboard to all of the new team. We wish you well.
