Update 5 Regarding COVID-19

To all Camden Rugby Union Club and Members, Sponsors and Supporters,

I trust everyone is keeping safe and well during the difficult time.

The IDRU Board has voted to not commence the 2020 Senior Rugby Competition. This is of course very disappointing, however, they have decided to hold a modified competition called the 2020 COVID Cup which will be a 2 grade, 10 a side competition that will be played over six weeks across the IDRU district commencing 15th August.

There will be two 40 minute games played on Saturdays at various venues, which will mean each club will host a home Gala Day event. There will be more details of this forwarded to the club in the near future.

The IDRU Junior Rugby Competition is currently due to commence on the 19th of July 2020 in an adjusted format. The IDRU Junior Committee is currently in the process of finalising the details of this competition, with the final approval resting with the IDRU Board. We hope to hear more on this in the coming week.

The IDRU has advised that clubs are also allowed to arrange games with other clubs from both the Ilawarra and other districts, for both Seniors and Juniors, on the provision that the IDRU has knowledge of the matches and approves them. The committee has been investigating this option for the club since the season was put on hold and has been in discussion with other clubs. We will provide an update when the club has gained approval for all relevant authorities.

At present Camden Council is currently working on a framework for a return to play that safeguards users of their facilities and ensures that the grounds etc. are fit for purpose. We are expecting that the Camden Council will announce within the next couple of days that we can use the playing fields, however, until the club receives this notification the fields and clubhouse cannot be used for any training of teams. Once the committee is given approval from Council, training will resume as per the relevant guidelines provide by Rugby Australia, NSW Rugby NSW Country and IDRU.

We ask that you all follow those guidelines provided by the relevant authorities and not put the club in a position where the laws are being broken, as two sporting clubs in the Camden LGA have been fined for breaking training and illegal gatherings. Please do not put Camden Rugby in any position that puts the club at risk.

I wish to thank the Players, Coaching and Managing staff for their efforts in being proactive and having plans in place for the safe return to training and the work they have done with players during this time, helping them to maintain their mental and fitness levels. Well done to all !!!

I was personally thanked by a sponsor for club members purchasing items at his business and I thank you for supporting our sponsors during these trying times as it shows the true spirit of Camden Rugby Union.

As always the health and safety of our players, supporters, sponsors, members, parents, coaches and managers will always be at the forefront of the Camden Rugby Union Club and hopefully we will back involved in rugby in any forms in the near future.

Go the Rams.
