The weather was cold and windy, overcast conditions for Camden’s first home game of the year but it did not deter the healthy home crowd from turning up and witnessing a great day of rugby.

Camden Rugby would like to whole-heartedly congratulate 2011 Senior Club Captain Dan 'DC' Campbell. Dan has been an integral member of Camden Rugby since debuting as a Colt in 2004. Dan moved off the wing quickly and found his home in the forwards. His career highlights to date are the Shoalhaven Bus Trips 03 to present (he is a past Chosen one!) and Best and Fairest in the 3rd Grade teams of 2005 and 2010.

Dan was voted in last night by his peers after already showing tremendous leadership in 2011. We wish him all the best with this role and know he will do an upstanding job. Please lend DC your support throughout this season, to ensure a successful year both on and off the field!

Camden Rugby, for many years, has been blessed with the services of Gordon Maclean as Registrar. He has given off his time freely to ensure all players are official on game day. Gordon will be unable to commit to this role again in 2011 but will liaise with the incoming registrar regarding registration of players on MyRugby.

However it will be important to find someone (perhaps an ex-player or supporter who regularly attends games) to lessen to the workload of game day managers:

Roles include:

  • Filling out scorecards
  • Reporting match results to Illawarra
  • Updating Camden Rugby's records Database
  • Liaising with Managers in regards to new player registrations and ensuring players are signed on prior to Matches.

Anyone interested should contact Paul Clapson on 0430 182 170

This year’s Season Launch will again be held at the Camden Valley Inn. It will make use of the Gazebo and will be a family themed event. Camden Rugby is only too aware that the success of the players on the field can be maximised with the support of a players family, friends, wives or girlfriends. This will also be an event that targets the help of sponsors and presentations will be made to those sponsors that ensure our club runs successfully off the field. The event will be catered with light food and drinks provided. Proceedings will start at 4pm. All members of the Camden Rugby Community are welcome to attend.

Camden Rugby will conclude their pre-season trial games with a series of games against Wonoona Shamrocks at Ocean Park, Wonoona.

Games will be at: 12pm and 1pm

Recently Greg McGrath, of Greg McGrath Builders was presented with a Signed Jersey of the 2009 Premiership Winning Reserve Grade side he has sponsored for the past two seasons. This was signed by all members of the squad who defeated Vincentia on WIN Stadium that day, and was in recognition of the ongoing support Greg and his company has shown for the team and Camden Rugby Club. Pictured is president Stuart Hill, Captain of that side Matthew Dench and Greg.

Camden seniors will contest the second round of trial games against West Harbour (Lower Grades) at a the high quality Concord Oval. We hope numbers again will be sufficient to fill six shortened halves. Please see Al Le Good or Paul Mulready at Training to put your name down for selection in any or all of these fixtures.

                           2nd Half  3.30 to 4.00pm

With the Juniors Comp to start first week in April we are still seeking registrations for the 2011 season.

Would you like to sponsor a player?

Sponsorship package includes Business name on website, in newsletters (6 a season), on game day information regarding that player, entry to sponsors tent at special events and special sponsor's apparel.

This Saturday Trial Games will be played at Penrith. All players wishing to trial for Senior Grade teams should attend.

Further Juniors registration will be held at clubhouse 5.30pm on friday 3rd March.

With only 4 weeks until the comp starts it is important players returning from previous seasons finalise registration.

Camden Rugby are currently looking forward to the reintroduction of the Illawarra Colt's competition. Camden has eight U/19 Illawarrior representatives and has begun the process of developing a strong squad. Unfortunately Camden is still seeking expressions of interest for a full time coach, who will be coordinated by Illawarra U/19 Coach and Camden Rugby Coaching Coordinator Paul Mulready. Interested players should attend pre-season training to prepare for the full schedule of trials against Penrith, West Harbour and Wonoona Shamrocks.
