Shoalhaven Notch Fourth Win

MatchReportShoalhaven registered their fourth win of the season with a well-constructed home victory over Vikings at Ricoh Rugby Park on Saturday. Their 30 points to 19 win in the Round 10 Builders Club Premiership match came on the back of an energetic defensive effort which never allowed their opponents to settle into the match.

Despite scoring the first try of the match the Blueys first half effort fell away badly as Shoalhaven put on three first half tries to go to the break with a handy twelve point lead. The first Viking try came after seven minutes when Vikings best on the day Andrew Barrett took on the Shoalies defence, creating space for young No. 8 Liam Antrobus to score the opening points.

Shoalhaven responded strongly putting the Vikings line under prolonged pressure but the Vikings defence held. Speedy wing man Matt Spressor finished off a sharp backline raid to score Shoalies first wide on the left to even the score. With the Blueys losing their structure and failing badly at lineouts and the breakdown, they continually turned possession over to Shoalies who took full advantage. Centre Elijah Ah Chong combined brilliantly with Fly Half Josh Dennis as they worked a planned move which saw the centre run off the inside shoulder of Dennis and split the Vikings defence to score and take the lead 10-5, five minutes from half time.
