The Rogues Rant

RoguesRantWelcome to The Rogues Rant, an occasional look at all things Rugby.

The Junior Gold Cup gets things underway for the year at Vikings this Sunday. The Illawarra under 15 Boys will be taking on Sydney West in Round 1 of the national tournament at 3.00PM. The boys have been hard at it on the training paddock for the past couple of months under current Caldwell Cup champion coach Shaun McCreedy. It’s now time to take to the playing field and get season 2016 underway. Wins in the national tournament have eluded our sides over the first two years of matches but McCreedy is confident that the boys can get things off to a good start this week, win or lose. So get out and give the boys a lift at Vikings on Sunday for their first taste of national competition.

Speaking of Junior Rugby, Camp Wallaby will be coming to our region during the April and July School Holidays. The Sylvania BMW Camp Wallaby program will see two opportunities for young Rugby Players aged 7 – 17 to learn Rugby Skills from leading Australian Coaches and current Wallabies. Forwards Coach Topo Rodriguez and Greg Mumm (Ex-Coach of Fiji) and several present Wallabies will be in attendance at the camps. The camps are open to all comers and will be held at Menai Rugby Club at Barden Ridge, in southern Sydney. The three day non-residential camps will run from Monday April 13 to Wednesday April 15 and then again on Monday July 14 through to Wednesday July 16.
